The 7th international vgbe Expert Event “Digitalisation in Hydropower” is taking place from 15 to 16 October 2024 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Organised in cooperation with Uniper and the Technical University of Munich, Institute of Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering, this event will provide a comprehensive overview of key topics regarding digitalisation in the hydropower sector. It will primarily focus on the results and practical experiences of newly developed and implemented innovative digital measures, tested products, and tools from the view of the operators.

The main topics of the lectures include:

• Asset Management
• Workforce Management
• Advanced Data Analytics
• Platform Solutions
• Digital Twins
• Inspection & Measurement
• Visualisation (VR, AR, 3D GIS ...)

On 15 October, the programme will focus on innovative digital solutions for different aspects of the operation of a hydropower plant from the view and practical experiences of operators, with presentations from 9 international leading hydropower operators. Moreover, there will be a series of exhibition stands from manufacturers and suppliers with digital solutions.

On 16 October, participants are invited to tour the 279 MW storage hydropower plant at Walchensee, where uniper will showcase tested digitalisation techniques in live demos and use cases at 10 demonstration stations. Each station will feature an explanation and demonstration of a digital test system by qualified experts from uniper and project partners. Furthermore, all participants are invited to tour the Obernach Research Institute, where the Technical University of Munich's Institute of Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering will present current activities and results in sediment management, river morphology, eco-hydraulics, and etho-hydraulics as well as further digital live demos and use cases will be presented by uniper.
